Thiruvananthapuram: The final budget of the second Pinarayi government presents a series of major initiatives aimed at ensuring workers’ safety and enhancing youth employment skills. The budget announces a 1,000 rupees increase in honorariums for Anganwadi workers, ASHA workers, pre-primary teachers, and literacy instructors, while Anganwadi helpers will receive a 500 rupees increase. A 20 crore rupees welfare scheme and the establishment of “Gig Hubs” have also been announced for online delivery workers. These are among the many initiatives put forward by the LDF government. Security for Workers, Employment for Youth


The 2026–27 Budget extends care and protection to the dignity of working people and the employment skills of the youth.


Key announcements at a glance:


  • Wage Increase: A 1,000 rupees hike in honorariums for Anganwadi workers, ASHA workers, pre-primary teachers, and literacy instructors. Anganwadi helpers will receive an additional 500 rupees.

  • Connect to Work: A monthly scholarship of 1,000 rupees for five lakh young people undergoing employment-oriented training.

  • Worker Safety: 5 lakh rupees accidental death insurance coverage for workers in the unorganised sector.

  • Gig Workers: A 20 crore rupees welfare scheme and the launch of Gig Hubs for online delivery workers.

  • Employment Guarantee Scheme: Despite a reduction in the central share, an additional 1,000 crore rupees has been allocated for the scheme.
