Thiruvananthapuram: During the 16th session of the 15th Kerala Legislative Assembly, the opposition created an uproar and walked out, refusing to engage in discussion. VD Satheesan and his allies, who have yet to respond to the Sabarimala gold theft and Congress MLA Rahul Mamkoottathil sexual assault case, triggered a crisis from the very start of the assembly.

Despite repeated attempts by the Speaker to control the proceedings and carry forward the discussion, the opposition remained uncooperative. MLAs described their uproar, conducted without notice for an urgent motion, as entirely paradoxical.

V Sivankutty, speaking in the assembly, said that Congress has remained silent on Sonia Gandhi and questioned why the gold merchant Govardhan and another accused had visited her twice, and who had facilitated those visits. He added that Sonia Gandhi enjoys Z-plus security, making appointments extremely difficult. A minister also suggested that Sonia’s house should be raided, as gold is allegedly stored there.

Responding to the opposition’s uproar, Minister MB Rajesh said the question of “who hid the gold” should first be asked to UDF convener Adoor Prakash. If the response there is unsatisfactory, he added, the matter should be pursued directly at Sonia Gandhi’s residence in Delhi.

The High Court has issued directives to investigate the gold heist that occurred during the UDF rule. The opposition leader, Rajesh alleged, is attempting to protect those involved. The only available photograph reportedly shows the alleged perpetrators alongside Sonia Gandhi, a fact that cannot be denied.

MB Rajesh further noted that when the opposition leader sought to criticise the High Court-supervised investigation, they were strongly rebuked. Similarly, attempts to malign the SIT received no support from the court. Having failed in the courts, the opposition is now resorting to disruptive actions within the assembly.
