Cyber Police Book Five Congress Workers Over Allegedly Derogatory Social Media Posts Against K C Venugopal

Alappuzha: The Alappuzha Cyber Crime Police have registered a case against five Congress workers over a complaint alleging that AICC General Secretary K C Venugopal was portrayed in a derogatory manner on social media. The case was registered based on a complaint filed by Congress leader and advocate Johnson Abraham, two months after the complaint was submitted.

Johnson Abraham had approached the state police chief after noticing allegedly defamatory and abusive Facebook posts targeting K C Venugopal. He had also submitted details of five social media accounts that he alleged were involved in the cyber attack.

However, no action was taken even two months after the complaint was filed. The investigation began after Johnson Abraham submitted another complaint to Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala.

Following the Home Minister’s direction, the Cyber Division IG was assigned to investigate the complaint. Subsequently, the Alappuzha Cyber Crime Police registered the case.

According to police, the accused allegedly uploaded derogatory posts targeting Venugopal between May 11 and July 19, during discussions over potential candidates for the chief minister's post following the UDF's victory in the state Assembly elections.

K C Venugopal was in the run for the post along with V D Satheesan and Ramesh Chennithala. The chief ministerial post eventually went to V D Satheesan.
