Elderly Woman Dies of Snakebite in Kannur, Keralam Sees Renewed Concern

Kannur: An elderly woman has died after a snakebite incident in Kannur, raising fresh concerns over increasing such cases in the state. The deceased has been identified as Narayani, a resident of Pattuvam near Kavungal, who had been undergoing treatment since the incident last month.
According to reports, Narayani was bitten by a snake on April 26 while stacking firewood stored behind her house. She reportedly informed that a black-colored snake had bitten her, though she could not identify the species.
She was rushed to a hospital immediately after experiencing discomfort. A forest department rescue team later inspected the area but was unable to locate the snake. Based on the symptoms observed, medical experts suspected the bite to be from a viper species.
Despite receiving treatment, Narayani succumbed to her condition early this morning. Her funeral is scheduled to take place later in the day.
The incident comes amid a reported rise in snakebite cases across Keralam, prompting authorities to reiterate the need for heightened caution, especially in rural and forest-adjacent areas.
