Thiruvananthapuram: In the backdrop of Manorama News and other media outlets carrying incorrect reports related to a defamation petition, MLA Kadakampally Surendran has challenged Leader of the Opposition V.D. Satheesan. Kadakampally Surendran demanded that Satheesan produce before the court the evidence he claims to possess and present it both to the judiciary and the public. He said Satheesan has once again proven himself to be a politician without even a shred of integrity and challenged him to finally reveal the alleged evidence, even though months have passed since he dragged Kadakampally Surendran into the controversy.

Manorama News had earlier aired an incorrect report regarding the court proceedings in the defamation case filed by the MLA against V.D. Satheesan. Advocate Rajagopalan Nair, counsel for Kadakampally Surendran, had subsequently come forward to clarify the facts. However, similar reports later appeared in other media outlets as well. Kadakampally Surendran criticised this, stating that when identical fake news appears across media platforms using the same template, the source can easily be inferred, and questioned what kind of journalism this represents.

The incorrect news regarding the defamation petition I have filed against V.D. Satheesan was first reported yesterday by Manorama News. Since it was false, my lawyer’s statement explaining what actually transpired in court was shared by me on Facebook and circulated in media groups.

What followed thereafter is the nonsense you now see in the comments. What kind of journalism is this? If the same fake news appears across all media outlets in an identical template, one can be certain that the source is the same. And it is not difficult to guess who that source might be.

Now to Satheesan. Satheesan, you have once again proven that you are a politician without even a trace of integrity. Even so, let me say this—politics is meant to be conducted with dignity.
