UDF Government Completely Failed to Resolve Power Crisis, Says John Brittas

Thiruvananthapuram: CPI(M) MP John Brittas has strongly criticised the government over the continuing power restrictions that have made life difficult for people in Keralam. Brittas said people across the state were struggling with power cuts and that the government had completely failed to resolve the electricity crisis. He made the remarks in a video posted on Facebook.

Brittas criticised the government for keeping people in the dark about when power would be cut and how long the outages would last. “It is when the political leadership literally fails that the administrative leadership comes forward. In a democratic system, elected representatives, including ministers and the Chief Minister, are the ones who must face the people during times of crisis. VD Satheesan must remember that ours is a democratic system, not a bureaucracy,” he said.

Brittas rejected the claim by the VD Satheesan government that the present crisis was caused by the previous Pinarayi Vijayan government. He said the UDF government had received numerous warnings about a possible power crisis since it came to power.

“Despite receiving warnings, including about the need to purchase electricity from Karnataka, the government did not show any interest in reaching an agreement. This is an artificial crisis created by the government by failing to hold consultations even after four months in office,” Brittas said.

Brittas also said Pinarayi Vijayan was a person who had attempted to bring revolutionary changes to Keralam’s power sector.

He reminded the UDF government, which was elected with a majority of the people’s votes, not to show ingratitude towards the public.

“You are governing Keralam and you have the people’s mandate. The people brought you and your front to power with a huge majority. Do not show ingratitude towards them,” John Brittas said.
