Thiruvananthapuram: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy rainfall across Kerala over the next five days due to the presence of a cyclonic circulation over the state. According to the IMD, light to moderate rain accompanied by thunder and lightning is likely from today until March 3. Authorities have urged the public to remain vigilant.

The department warned that thunderstorms can be hazardous, posing risks to human and animal life, as well as to electrical and communication networks and household appliances connected to power lines. People are advised to take safety precautions at the first sign of dark clouds, as thunderstorms may not always be visibly apparent.

In the next three hours, light to moderate rain accompanied by thunder, lightning and strong winds reaching speeds of up to 40 kmph is expected at isolated places in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Idukki and Palakkad districts. Light rain is also likely at isolated locations in Ernakulam, Thrissur, Malappuram and Wayanad districts, the IMD said.

Residents are advised to follow official weather updates and safety advisories issued by the authorities.
