UDF Affiliated Media Spreads Fake News Claiming Left-Wing Cyber Attack Against Dhyan Sreenivasan

Kochi: A UDF-affiliated media outlet has published what is being described as false news alleging that the Left front is carrying out a cyber attack against actor Dhyan Sreenivasan. The report claimed that CPI(M)-linked social media profiles targeted Dhyan because he did not stand up when Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan arrived to pay his last respects to Sreenivasan. This allegation was later reported by Malayala Manorama.
Several reports by right-leaning media attempted to create the impression that CPI(M) and the Left were widely attacking Dhyan Sreenivasan online. In one such report, a Facebook post by Congress spokesperson Vasanth Syriac was shared, explicitly referring to “CPI(M) cyber warriors,” which amounted to ridicule and deliberate misinformation. The report was headlined as a response by a Congress spokesperson to alleged Left cyber attacks against Dhyan.
It is pointed out that the offensive or critical posts originated from anonymous and unverified cyber handles, without clear identity or affiliation. Despite this, Manorama and several Congress-linked cyber handles allegedly attempted to portray these posts as a coordinated Left-wing attack, suggesting deliberate political motivation.
Some other right-wing media outlets also took up the issue and launched attacks against the Left, further amplifying what can described as a manufactured controversy aimed at misrepresenting the Left’s stance and creating public misunderstanding.
