Thiruvananthapuram: CPI state secretary Binoy Viswam has raised allegations of political censorship against Doordarshan. He claimed that Doordarshan edited out remarks against the BJP and the central government from a program allocated to CPI. The program was granted by Doordarshan in connection with the elections.

Doordarshan had requested the removal of two segments from the program, and Binoy Viswam criticised this interference, stating that such actions reflect the true face of the central government. He further emphasised that CPI does not align with the political stance that suits the BJP. Viswam stated that the program had been prepared in full compliance with the guidelines, but it was edited afterward. He expressed strong disapproval, calling the action highly regrettable.

He added that this kind of action infringes upon the right of citizens to be informed and stated that he would not accept censorship and would not record the program under such conditions. Binoy Viswam also mentioned that he had faced a similar situation with All India Radio in the past. He criticised both Doordarshan and All India Radio, stating they had become mere "His Master’s Voice."

Doordarshan had made these edits following the recommendations of the vetting committee. The committee had informed that the edited sections would not be recorded, and in response, Viswam stated that he would not participate in the program if that were the case. He argued that this censorship was carried out according to the wishes of the BJP.
