New Domestic LPG Connections to Come With Smaller 10-Kg Composite Cylinders

Thiruvananthapuram: The size of domestic LPG cylinders issued with new connections is being reduced. Those applying for a new domestic LPG connection will receive a 10-kg composite gas cylinder instead of the existing 14.2-kg cylinder.

The new 10-kg connection, including the regulator and other equipment, will cost Rs 5,000. However, this amount will not be refunded when the connection is surrendered.

The change is part of a reform introduced by the Centre to overcome the LPG shortage during the West Asian conflicts. However, the reform has remained in place even after the crisis ended.

Previously, a domestic LPG connection cost Rs 4,000. The cost of refilling a cylinder has also increased from Rs 960 to Rs 1,500.

The latest move comes after claims that only commercial LPG cylinders were facing a price increase. With the reduction in cylinder size as well, the Centre is imposing additional costs on the public.
