Cyber Police Warn of Fake Ads Exploiting Chief Minister's Image to Scam PhonePe Users

Thiruvananthapuram: Police warn about a financial fraud involving fake advertisements using the Chief Minister's picture on social media platforms.
The fraudster is spreading a message that says, "If you have the PhonePe app on your phone, you can easily earn Rs 12,000." Due to the use of the Chief Minister's image, many people may click on the link without realising it's a scam.
The link opens the PhonePe app on the victim's phone and prompts them to pay Rs 1,499. The victim is also asked to provide their PIN number to receive the amount. However, this is not a page for receiving money, but rather a page to make a payment of Rs 1,499. If the victim provides their PIN number, the money is transferred directly to the scammer's account.
The Cyber Police have issued a warning to be vigilant against such scams.
If you become a victim of cyber fraud, immediately file a complaint by calling the cyber helpline number 1930 or visit the National Cyber Crime Portal at https://cybercrime.gov.in.
