Thiruvananthapuram: The CPI(M) has launched statewide protests demanding the release of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and his wife. Protests began at various locations after reports emerged that Maduro had been taken hostage by US forces, and later expanded across the state following a call by the CPI(M) for widespread demonstrations.

Protest marches were also organized under the leadership of organisations such as the SFI, DYFI, and KSTA. Slogans condemning the United States for violating the sovereignty of another nation and warning that such actions pose a threat to global peace echoed across the streets. More protest demonstrations are scheduled to be held at additional centres on Sunday.

DYFI: Invasion is condemnable

The DYFI condemned the US military attacks on Venezuela and the detention of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and his wife by American forces. The organisation said that former US President Donald Trump has long been pursuing efforts to eliminate Nicolas Maduro and Venezuela for taking a strong stand against American imperialism. Calling on people across the world to rise against US imperialist aggression aimed at plundering Venezuela’s oil resources and silencing a critical nation, the DYFI state secretariat said it stands in solidarity with the Venezuelan people who are resisting the aggression.

SFI calls for protests

The SFI strongly condemned the US aggression against Venezuela. Expressing solidarity with Venezuela and protesting the American intervention, the SFI Central Executive Committee called for nationwide demonstrations and rallies. An SFI solidarity rally was held in Hyderabad on Saturday. SFI president Adarsh M Saji, general secretary Srijan Bhattacharyya, joint secretary Nagaraju, and leaders Shilpa S, Rohidas, and Atheeq Rahman addressed the gathering.

Threat to world peace: AIDWA

The All India Democratic Women’s Association (AIDWA) stated that the arrogance of the United States in assuming it can invade other countries poses a serious threat to world peace. Reports that US forces have taken Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and his wife hostage are deeply disturbing, the association said. It also condemned the bombing carried out by the US in various parts of Venezuela. The statement said the US was provoked to wage war against Venezuela because the country refused to submit to American vested interests. The approach of the US in seeking to dominate all other nations must be put to an end, and other countries across the world must unite to condemn such actions, said AIDWA president Susan Kody and secretary C S Sujatha in a statement.
