Thrissur: In a heartfelt demonstration of commitment and compassion, CPI M has kept its word to Kochu Velayudhan, who was publicly humiliated by Union Minister Suresh Gopi. Denied consideration for a housing application, the elderly man found himself at the centre of media attention and social media outrage.
On September 13, 2025, Kochu Velayudhan attended a BJP-organised event, Kalung Samvadam, hoping to secure assistance to build a proper home beyond the single-room dwelling he had long struggled with. Instead of support, he was met with callous dismissal, as Suresh Gopi reportedly said, “This is not the MP’s responsibility,” without even opening the envelope containing his application. The incident left many shocked and deeply sympathetic to Kochu Velayudhan’s plight.
Moved by his story, CPI M’s Thrissur District Secretary, K V Abdul Khader, personally visited Kochu Velayudhan in Pullu that very evening. With empathy and resolve, he assured the elderly man that the party would take immediate action to build him a home. True to its word, the local CPI M team mobilised with urgency, and within a remarkable 75 days, the construction of the house was completed, with only minor finishing touches remaining. Kochu Velayudhan is now expected to move into his new home soon, a milestone set to be celebrated after the elections.
On Sunday, December 7, the District Secretary returned to Pullu to personally inspect the progress. Accompanying him were CPI M District Secretariat member P K Shajan, Area Secretary A S Dinakaran, and key members of the construction committee, including K K Anilkumar, V R Biju, K Gopi, K S Mohandas, Advocate Shekesh, and Shilli. Their visit reaffirmed the party’s commitment to keeping promises and standing with citizens in need, turning what was once a moment of public humiliation into a story of hope and dignity restored.
