Kannur: CPI(M) state secretary M. V. Govindan on Friday accused the Congress of actively sheltering MLA Rahul Mankootathil, who is facing multiple sexual assault charges, and helping him remain in hiding. He alleged that Congress MP Shafi Parambil is playing a key role in protecting the accused. “Wherever he is being concealed, the investigation team will find him and arrest him,” Govindan said at a press conference.

He pointed out that Congress had received several complaints against Rahul long ago but chose to suppress them. “These complaints were buried, and the party refused to act. Only when overwhelming evidence surfaced did the Congress announce action—and that too merely to save face. They acted because they had no other option,” he said.

Govindan added that Rahul Mankootathil had been treated as a prized political asset within the Congress. “Wasn’t he projected by Cherian Philip as the party’s next chief minister? Shafi Parambil and Rahul belong to the same political pattern,” he remarked.

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan also criticised Rahul’s actions, saying they were shocking to anyone with a conscience. The Chief Minister described them as “acts of extreme sexual perversity” and said Rahul is someone who should not remain in public life. “What has come out is extraordinarily grotesque,” he said. best title for this news
