Compensation Announced for Meppadi Landslide-Affected Shop Owners and Entrepreneurs

Thiruvananthapuram: The Ministry has decided to provide appropriate compensation to building owners and entrepreneurs who lost their shops in the Meppadi landslide. Shop owners who have faced complete destruction will receive Rs 7 lakh per shop, regardless of the type or structure, and if a shop owner has lost more than one room, they will receive Rs 2.5 lakh per room. To help entrepreneurs restart their businesses, they will be provided 50% of the losses incurred, subject to a maximum amount for each business: Rs 20 lakh for the construction sector, Rs 10 lakh for the service sector, and Rs 7 lakh for the trade sector. The Cabinet has decided to sanction the required compensation from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund to the Wayanad District Collector and has entrusted the Collector with the distribution of these funds.
