Thiruvananthapuram: Amidst the phase 1 of local body polls, BJP candidate in and retired IPS officer R Sreelekha landed in controversy after she made a post on Facebook referring to pre-poll survey. Her action on the day of voting has triggered allegations of poll code violations.

Both the ruling LDF and the opposition UDF accused the former top cop of violating the election code. According to the poll codes set by the Election Commission of India, publication of poll surveys ahead of polls are barred. According to the survey shared by her, the BJP would win the local body polls by a record margin, pushing the LDF to second place and the UDF to third.

General Education Minister V Sivankutty said that her actions reflect her lack of knowledge in the political field. "The authorities have to look into the poll code violation," he said.

Following the controversy, the post was removed from her page. As per reports, the State Election Commission has reported the matter to the Cyber Police seeking action.

Meanwhile, the authenticity of the pre-poll survey is also being questioned. She is contesting from the Sasthamangalam ward of the Thiruvananthapuram Corporation.
