Binoy Viswam Raises Concerns After Meppadi Landslide, Urges Probe

Thiruvananthapuram: CPI State Secretary Binoy Viswam has expressed concern over the landslide at the Wayanad tunnel construction site in Meppadi, Wayanad, saying the incident raises serious safety questions.
In a statement, he said that with the southwest monsoon intensifying, the government should have intervened to suspend large-scale construction activities in a region like Wayanad. He urged the authorities to examine whether there had been any lapse in this regard.
He stressed that extreme caution is essential while undertaking major infrastructure projects in environmentally sensitive areas. Binoy Viswam also called on the state government to intensify rescue operations at the disaster site and ensure that those injured in the incident receive the best possible medical treatment.
