Thiruvananthapuram: CPI state secretary Binoy Viswam has condemned the UDF government's decision to implement the PM SHRI scheme as a grievous betrayal of Keralam's students and education sector, saying the government's volte-face has laid bare the hollowness of the Chief Minister's claims.

He reminded Chief Minister V D Satheesan — who styles himself a Nehruvian socialist — that he should first pick up Nehru's books and read them before making such claims. He also pointed out the irony of the Muslim League, MSF, and Youth League now championing the very scheme they had once vigorously opposed, and suggested they revisit their own earlier statements on the matter.

Taking a dig at Satheesan's oft-repeated claim that one's word is one's bond, Viswam said the Chief Minister has broken his word on PM SHRI, and that people now know his promises are worthless. On PM SHRI, Congress and BJP are birds of the same feather, he said.

The CPI leader noted that PM SHRI is a scheme already imposed in other Congress-governed states, and is now being pushed onto Keralam as well — with the League and its allies, once fierce opponents of the scheme, now actively facilitating its implementation. Those who love knowledge and the students of Keralam will never forgive the UDF for this wholly wrong decision, Binoy Viswam said, describing PM SHRI as a vehicle for imposing the RSS agenda on Keralam's education system.
