Reporter TV MD Anto Augustine's Bail Plea Rejected in Liquor Case

Sulthan Bathery: A court has rejected the bail plea of Reporter TV managing director Anto Augustine in a case related to the alleged illegal possession of liquor. The Sulthan Bathery Judicial First Class Magistrate Court rejected the bail application.


The Excise Department is expected to seek his custody for further investigation. The department had seized 67 litres of liquor from Anto Augustine's ancestral house at Vazhavatta in Wayanad, including 12.75 litres that it has described as illicit liquor.


He was arrested by the Excise Department the other day under the Kerala Abkari Act for allegedly storing liquor in excess of the permitted quantity at his residence.


The liquor was seized during a raid at his Wayanad residence carried out in connection with tanother investigation.


The Excise Department registered the case under Sections 55(a), 55(i) and 58 of the Kerala Abkari Act.
