When Mammootty arrived at the township
Kalpatta: Malayalam’s legendary actor Mammootty visited the township set up by the government for those who survived the Mundakkai disaster. The Chief Minister, Pinarayi Vijayan, had handed over the keys to 178 houses in the township just the day before. In Zone 1, Mammootty visited house number 26, where the Chief Minister had arrived earlier. Mammootty had come from a shooting set in Padinjare.
Mammootty told the media that the township represents Kerala’s social capital. "Food, clothing, and shelter are our primary needs. It is built as a contribution from the people. What can be seen here is the heart of the people," said Mammootty.
A total of 410 houses are being constructed on 64.47 hectares. A health centre, anganwadi, community centre, public market, landslide memorial, open theater, multipurpose hall, library, playgrounds, and an electricity substation will also be constructed. Rs 299 crore is being spent through the EPC contract with Ooralungal Labour Contract Society.
