Thiruvananthapuram: Acting CPI(M) Thiruvananthapuram District Secretary A A Rahim has accused the BJP of orchestrating a wave of attacks after gaining control of the Thiruvananthapuram corporation, saying the assault at Nettayam was entirely one-sided and that even media personnel were among those who were attacked by BJP.

"The BJP is unleashing violence because they gained control of the corporation. What happened at Nettayam was a unilateral attack. They are running amok emboldened by their hold on city governance," Rahim told reporters.

He also launched a sharp attack on BJP leader R Sreelekha over her decision to publicly release a private chat with a senior police officer, calling it an act of blackmail against the Police Commissioner. "Sreelekha has not shed her IPS hangover. BJP must rein her in and stop putting undue pressure on police officers who are functioning within the law. There is no problem with a political leader speaking to the police, but this was in the tone of a threat," he said.

Rahim said Sreelekha's intent in releasing the private conversation was to signal to civil society how she handles senior officials including the Commissioner — and that this reflected the broader political culture of the BJP.
