53 Malayalis Stranded in Nepal Flash Floods, Safe According to Latest Reports by Norka

Thiruvananthapuram: Norka Roots Chief Executive Officer Rajesh Madhavan has confirmed that 53 Malayalis are stranded following the flash floods in Nepal, adding that all of them are believed to be safe based on available information.

Direct contact with those stranded has not been possible as network systems in the disaster zone have completely failed. Their relatives got in touch with Norka Roots to share the information. Norka and the Indian Embassy are making intensive efforts to pinpoint the exact location of all 53 Malayalis. Steps to move them to safer locations are being coordinated.

Meanwhile, Nepal's Foreign Minister Shishir Khanal said around 300 Indians are among those yet to be traced following the flash floods. Information on thousands more people is still awaited. The worst damage has been concentrated in three districts. In the Rasuwa region alone, over a thousand people remain unaccounted for.
