Thiruvananthapuram: Vizhinjam International Seaport has set a new benchmark by handling more than one lakh containers in just one month, a remarkable achievement within four months of starting commercial operations in December 2024.
Kerala Port Minister V N Vasavan said on Tuesday that the port efficiently managed 1.08 lakh TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent units) from 51 vessels in March 2025, demonstrating its smooth and high-capacity operations. The minister credited this rapid success to Adani Vizhinjam Port's use of advanced technology and meticulous planning, which have ensured quick scalability and operational reliability.
The port began trial operations in July 2024 before officially launching commercial services in December 2024. "This swift progress highlights the port's potential to emerge as a major hub in global maritime trade, strengthening India’s logistics network and reinforcing Kerala’s position as a key player in the sector," Vasavan added.
