Kerala clears over 1.65 lakh nominations for local body elections

Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala recorded a massive 1,65,893 approved nominations for the upcoming local body elections, according to the latest figures released by state election commission on Sunday. The data, compiled district- wise, shows strong participation across the state, with women filing slightly more nominations than men.
The chart indicates that 87,958 nominations from women were approved, compared to 77,932 from men. Three nominations from transgender candidates were also accepted.
Malappuram leads the state with 20,128 approved nominations, followed closely by Thrissur with 17,232 and Ernakulam with 16,954. The lowest number of approvals came from Wayanad at 5235.
In terms of approved candidates, Kerala has cleared 1,09,671 names. Women once again outnumbered men, with 57,803 female candidates approved against 51,867 male candidates. One transgender candidate also made it to the approved list.
Rejections remained relatively low statewide, with 2,479 nominations rejected. Thiruvananthapuram saw the highest number of rejections at 538, followed by Kottayam with 446. The lowest rejection count was in Kasargod at 57.
