Kalpetta: Thirty food kits were seized from the house of the UDF candidate in the municipal corporation. The kits were taken from the residence of K Chithra, the Muslim League candidate from the fifth ward, around 8 pm. The kits were in the vehicle of Congress area secretary Antony Thannikkode. Kalpetta police confiscated the kits and registered a case.
Locals noticed that food items worth around one thousand rupees each were packed into about thirty kits at Chungath Supermarket in Kalpetta and brought to the candidate’s house by auto. They informed the police about this. This is the same ward where UDF was previously accused of attempting to influence voters by distributing kits during the Lok Sabha elections contested by Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra. LDF leaders said that the attempt to influence voters by distributing food kits came against the backdrop of LDF candidate Sheeba Vijayan’s assured victory.
