Ankara: At least 16 people were injured in a shooting at a vocational high school in Siverek, southeastern Turkiye, on Tuesday. The attacker later died by suicide, officials confirmed.

According to Governor Hasan Sıldak, the assailant—an 18-year-old former student of the school—entered the campus armed with a firearm and opened fire inside the building. Police arrived at the scene shortly afterward, following which the attacker used the same weapon to shoot himself.

Among those injured are 10 students, four teachers, a canteen worker, and a police officer. Most of the injured were admitted to a primary health centre in Siverek, while those with serious injuries were shifted to a hospital in the provincial capital.

Authorities said the motive behind the attack remains unclear, and initial findings suggest that the assailant had no prior criminal record. Officials also emphasized that the school is now secure and described the incident as isolated.

Media reports indicate that the attacker had posted threats on social media prior to the shooting. Videos circulating online show students fleeing the school premises in panic.
