Washington DC: At the NATO summit, Donald Trump announced that the United States would end all trade relations with fellow alliance member Spain.

Describing Spain as "a bad partner," Trump said the country was not providing the level of support expected in the defence sector. He added that he had instructed the Treasury Secretary to terminate all trade ties with Madrid. Trump also claimed he had no interest in maintaining commercial relations with Spain and alleged that the country had been deriving significant economic benefits from the US.

Spain, however, strongly rejected the US stance. Responding to Trump's remarks, Spanish Health Minister Monica Garcia said Spain is a sovereign nation committed to democratic values and should not be threatened or pressured into changing its policies.

Spanish officials also said such a position was inappropriate at the diplomatic level, expressing strong disagreement with Washington's approach.
