Oslo: Marius Borg Hoiby, the son of Norway’s Crown Princess, has been sentenced to four years in prison after an Oslo court found him guilty in a case involving rape and other offences.

The ruling was delivered by the Oslo District Court on Monday following proceedings that examined multiple allegations against the 29-year-old. Hoiby had faced dozens of charges, including rape, assault, violations of restraining orders, and offences linked to drugs.

Among the cases considered by the court, Hoiby was convicted of assaulting his former partner, Nora Haukland, who is the only complainant to have been publicly identified. The court also ordered him to pay compensation to Haukland and three other women.

The most serious allegations centred on incidents involving four women between 2018 and 2024. Prosecutors argued that the victims were asleep or in a heavily impaired condition at the time of their sexual assaults.

During the trial, Hoiby denied the rape allegations but acknowledged responsibility for certain lesser offences. One charge relating to violation of a restraining order was later dismissed.

Prosecutors had sought a prison term of seven years and seven months, while the defence argued that Hoiby should be cleared of the rape accusations and receive a significantly shorter sentence for the offences he had admitted.

Hoiby attended the hearing through a video connection from Ila prison, with his legal team citing health-related reasons for his absence from court.

The verdict may still be challenged, as Hoiby retains the right to appeal the decision.
