Addis Ababa: At least 52 people have been killed, and the whereabouts of 50 others remain unknown following a landslide in southern Ethiopia. The landslide occurred in various villages in the Gamo Zone after heavy rains that have persisted for a week.

The landslides affected the Gamo Zone, particularly the Gacho Baba, Kamba, and Bonke districts, according to Mesfin Manuqa, the Gamo Zone director of disaster response. The search for missing individuals is ongoing. Authorities reported that one person was rescued after being pulled from the mud, but most of the deceased were found buried in the debris. The exact number of affected households is still unclear. Local authorities have started evacuating residents, as the rains are expected to continue in the coming days.
