Jerusalem: Israel has stated that it will assassinate anyone who becomes the successor to Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Khamenei, following reports that he was killed in a joint U.S.-Israeli strike. Israel’s threat comes after reports that the Assembly of Experts has reached a preliminary consensus on selecting Iran’s new leader.

The Israeli military also announced that it would target members of the expert committee responsible for selecting the successor. The warning was posted in Persian on a note shared on X. According to Iran’s constitution, the Supreme Leader is elected by an 88-member Assembly of Experts. Earlier reports suggested that Mojtaba Khamenei, the son of Ayatollah Khamenei, had been chosen as the successor.

Meanwhile, due to the prevailing fear of war, the name of the successor has been kept secret by the Council of Religious Leaders. Mohsen Haidari Alekasir, a member of the council, clarified that they had unanimously agreed on the most suitable candidate. At the same time, attacks by the U.S. and Israel against Iran have intensified. Reports indicate that several children were killed in an Israeli attack in southern Lebanon.
