Tehran: Tensions in the West Asia escalated sharply on Wednesday after Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) seized multiple commercial vessels attempting to pass through the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz, just hours after US President Donald Trump announced an extension of a temporary ceasefire between Washington and Tehran.

According to Iranian state media and maritime security reports, at least two container ships were detained by IRGC naval forces, while a third vessel came under fire during the confrontation. The ships were reportedly accused of violating maritime regulations, including operating without proper authorization and allegedly tampering with navigation systems.
