Dubai: Meteorological authorities have warned that the weather in the UAE is likely to worsen in the coming days. The spring season will continue until May. Ibrahim Al Jarwan, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Emirates Astronomical Society, stated that there is a possibility of heavy rains and thunderstorms in many areas.

The current period is known as 'Sarayath' (Maraavih), which typically lasts from mid-March to the first week of May. It is a transition period between winter and summer in the Arabian Peninsula. The main characteristics of this weather phenomenon include the sudden formation of dark convective clouds, intense lightning, strong winds, and heavy rainfall. It is also warned that the atmosphere can change rapidly within a short period, potentially leading to heavy rainfall.

It is assessed that local clouds forming in the Central-East African regions are also spreading to the Arabian Peninsula and the Gulf areas, contributing to the current situation. Authorities have reported that a low-pressure system became active in the UAE and the Gulf region by the end of the last week of March.
