Clashes Continue in Mexico; Embassy Advises Indian Citizens to Stay in Safe Locations

Mexico City: Following the killing of drug cartel leader Nemesio Rubén Oseguera in Mexico, widespread clashes have erupted. Cartel groups have blocked roads and set vehicles on fire in Jalisco and surrounding states. Considering the security situation, Air Canada has canceled flights to Puerto Vallarta.


The Indian Embassy has advised Indian citizens residing in Mexico to remain in safe locations until further notice. Oseguera, who was killed, was the leader of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel. Indian citizens in Puerto Vallarta, Chapala, Guadalajara, Tamaulipas, Michoacán, Guerrero, Nuevo León, and surrounding areas are advised to seek shelter until further updates from the embassy.
