Thiruvananthapuram: At the 30th Kerala International Film Festival, the Rajatha Chakoram for Best Director was awarded to Argentine directors Lucía Bracelis and Carina Piazza for their film Before the Body. The announcement was made during the festival’s closing ceremony at Nishagandhi. The award carries a cash prize of four lakh rupees, along with a citation and a plaque.
The Spanish- language film, co-created by Bracelis and Piazza, was one of the standout entries in the international competition section. Both directors, who have previously gained recognition for their web series La Vida Tranquil and various short films, have established a strong presence in the world of cinema with this feature.
The film tells the story of a mother struggling to protect her children, exploring the escalating threats and societal challenges she faces. It delicately portrays the emotional complexities between maternal care and confronting dangerous circumstances.
This year, fifteen films competed for the Golden Crowns in the international competition section. The awards were decided by an international jury chaired by Iranian director Mohammad Rasoulof.
