Uttarakhand: A cloudburst in Uttarakhand has led to the death of one person. The worst damage has been reported from Chamoli district. Heavy rainfall during the night caused flash floods in the town of Tharali, flooding numerous homes. Two people are reported missing — one from Sagwara and another from the Chepdon market area.
Officials stated that a 20-year-old woman went missing from Sagwara and another person from Chepdon. According to Chamoli Additional District Magistrate Vivek Prakash, several buildings in Tharali and nearby areas have sustained significant damage. Roads were destroyed due to flash floods, severely disrupting transportation. Debris carried by the floodwaters entered homes, buildings, and roads. Vehicles parked in the tehsil complex were buried under mud.
Vivek Prakash added that relief camps are being set up. The Karnaprayag-Gwaldam national highway connecting Tharali has been closed, as informed by the Chamoli District Disaster Management Center. All schools in the area were given a holiday on Saturday. This destruction in Chamoli comes just weeks after a cloudburst in Uttarkashi district killed one person and left 65 others missing.
