Chennai: The release of Vijay’s much-anticipated film ‘Jana Nayagan’, originally scheduled for January 9, has been postponed. The decision comes amid ongoing uncertainty regarding the film’s certification, the producers, KVN Productions, officially announced. Distributors in Europe and Malaysia have reportedly canceled the release, the Jana Nayagan team informed through a post on X. A new release date has not yet been declared.

In a statement, the Jana Nayagan team wrote,"It is with a very heavy heart that we share this update with our partners and audiences. The release of Jana Nayagan, eagerly awaited on January 9, has been postponed due to unavoidable circumstances beyond our control.

We deeply understand the anticipation, excitement, and emotions surrounding this film, and this decision has not been an easy one for any of us. The new release date will be announced at the earliest. Until then, we humbly request your patience and continued love. Your unwavering support is our greatest strength and means everything to the entire Jana Nayagan team."

The release was delayed due to a legal dispute related to the film’s censor certificate. Although the filmmakers made the 27 changes suggested by the Censor Board, the authorities were still unwilling to grant certification. The producers subsequently approached the court, which postponed the verdict to Friday, leaving the release uncertain.

According to the Censor Board, complaints had been filed claiming that the film hurt religious sentiments and portrayed the armed forces negatively. Consequently, the movie has been referred to the revising committee for further review.

Despite the postponement, there had been tremendous excitement among audiences, including late-night shows across multiple theaters. Reports indicate that the film had already earned around 35 crore rupees through pre-bookings alone. The delay has disappointed both filmgoers who had booked advance tickets and theater owners.
