New York: The OTT streaming giant Netflix has increased its subscription prices in the United States. The rates have been raised across all plans. For plans with advertisements, the price has increased by one dollar, changing from $7.99 to $8.99. The standard plan without advertisements has risen from $17.99 to $19.99, while the premium plan has increased from $24.99 to $26.99. The company stated that the price hikes are due to its significant investment in live events, video podcasts, and original programming. This is the second time Netflix has raised its rates; the first increase occurred in January.

This price increase comes as Netflix expects to spend $20 billion on content in 2026, up from $18 billion last year. When Netflix introduced the ad-supported tier three and a half years ago, the standard plan was $15.49, and the ad-supported plan was $6.99. In the past three and a half years, the ad-free plan has increased by $4.50, while the ad-supported plan has risen by $2.

If a customer wants access to popular streaming platforms in the U.S. such as Netflix, Disney+, HBO Max, and Peacock, they will need to pay around $75. Plans with ads cost $40. However, streaming giants like Netflix believe that ad-supported plans are profitable. In addition to revenue from customers, these platforms also earn millions through advertising.

Streaming services like Amazon Prime Video have now introduced ads for all users. To avoid these ads, Amazon asks users to pay $5 per month. As these platforms increasingly focus on live sports, the inclusion of ads is growing. Even in ad-free tiers, there are often ads during live sports broadcasts.

Netflix has also raised its subscription fees to include more members. The cost for ad-supported plans has increased from $5.99 to $6.99, and for ad-free plans, it has gone up from $8.99 to $9.99. Existing members will receive an email notification 30 days before the new prices are applied to their billing cycle. New customers are already subject to the higher rates.

Due to the increase in subscriptions and prices, along with the expected doubling of ad revenue compared to last year, Netflix projects its total revenue for 2026 to be between $50.7 billion and $51.7 billion, as stated in January.

Netflix is also a highly popular streaming platform in India. Currently, subscription plans in India have not been increased. The rates in India are as follows:

Mobile plan – Rs 149

Basic plan – Rs 199

Standard plan – Rs 499

Premium plan – Rs 649
