Thiruvananthapuram: There was a time when parents had to wait for Parent -Teacher Meetings to understand how their child was progressing in their studies. But those days are in the past. With the advancement of technology, it has become easier for parents to stay updated on their children’s academic performance.
The Kerala government is once again setting an example by integrating education with technology for the betterment of students. The Education Department is implementing a Holistic Progress Card, which will include comprehensive academic information for each student. Parents will be able to access this information easily through the "Sahitham' portal, which is part of a comprehensive quality plan introduced by the department.
Starting from the 2025–2026 academic year, the progress card will be completely digital. Preparations are already underway under the leadership of SCERT. The Holistic Progress Card will record the qualities and achievements of students at each stage. It will include marks obtained in exams, assignments, projects, and attendance. Achievements in arts and sports will also be included in the digital card. "Students and parents can log in and access this card at any time," says Dr. R K Jayaprakash.
The Sahitham portal also features audio, video, and visual representations of each chapter in their respective subjects. It provides presentations and worksheets as part of the study material, along with an option for mock tests. The digitisation of 10th-grade textbooks has been completed, and online question papers are being prepared for class exams. The software required for this system is currently under development, and the initial steps have already been taken.
