Seoul: Samsung Electronics reported a sharp increase in consolidated revenue for the first quarter of 2025, driven by strong sales of its latest smartphones. However, its semiconductor division experienced a notable downturn.
The South Korean tech giant announced consolidated revenue of 56 billion dollar for the January–March period, marking an all-time quarterly high. Operating profit rose slightly to 4.7 billion dollar, up from 4.6 billion dollar in the same period last year.
Samsung credited the strong performance to robust sales of its flagship Galaxy S25 smartphone and other high-value-added products.
In contrast, the company’s semiconductor business saw its operating profit drop to 774 million dollar, down from 1.3 billion dollar a year earlier. The decline was attributed to falling average selling prices and reduced demand for high-bandwidth memory, as customers await the rollout of next-generation memory chips.
Despite the setback in its chip segment, Samsung remains optimistic about long-term growth, particularly in areas like artificial intelligence and advanced memory technologies.
