Trains Torched During Protest Against Agnipath Recruitment Scheme In Bihar

Patna :  Defence aspirants  protesting  against Agnipath – a radical recruitment plan for armed forces – turned violent resorting to blazing trains, vandalising buses, and disrupting traffic.   The protesters demanded immediate withdrawal of the new short-term recruitment scheme.

Baton -wielding youths barged at  Bhabua Road railway and smashed window panes of Intercity Express before setting its coaches on fire.

In Nawada, BJP MLA Aruna Devi was attacked with hail of stones hurled at her.  The MLA and five others were injured in the incident.

At Arrah railway station, police resorted to tear gas shelling to disperse a protesting crowd that pelted stones at cops.

In Jehanabad, students pelted stones injuring several people including policemen when they attempted to clear railway tracks where the students had camped to disrupt trains. CCTV footage at railway station showed police and students throwing stones at one another and cops occasionally pointing their gun at protesters to scare them away.

According to reports, the protests are steadily spreading to other states elsewhere through the country.
