The 75-year-old British author Salman Rushdie, stabbed in New York on Friday, remains on ventilator. According to Rushdie’s agent, Andrew Wylie, the author runs risks losing sight in one eye. Also Rushdie is unable too speak and suffered damage to his arm and liver.
The assailant, a New Jersey resident from Fair view, Hadi Matar(24) remain in police custody. Hadi barged onto the dais at Chautauqua Institution and attacked Rushdie when he was about to deliver a speech.
Rushdie is a British citizen with Indian descent. His 1988 novel “The Satanic Verses” are considered blasphemous by many Muslims and led to death threats in the 80s especially from Iran, when Ayatollah Ruhallah Khomeini issued a fatwa calling for his death.
