New Delhi : The Supreme Court on Wednesday dismissed plea submitted by Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple trust seeking audit exemption for its accounts. Income and expenditure over 25 years must be accounted for and subject to audit, the apex court observed. The ruling was delivered by SC Bench headed by Justice UU Lalit.
The petition sought exemption from audit on grounds that it was not involved in management affairs of the temple. The Bench clarified that the court’s earlier ruling asking for 25-year audit includes Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple Trust too.
The temple’s management committee held that the Trust should undergo audit for its accounts. The Trust was formed to take care of day-to-day expenses of the temple, the management said. Some of the temple wealth rests with the Trust. Help from the Trust and government will be essential to tide over losses owing to Covid conditions. The Trust should be directed to meet the Temple’s day-to-day expenses, the managing committee urged.
