Kochi : Kochi Metro services will soon extend up to Pettah station with Commissioner of Metro Railway Safety giving the mandatory safety clearance for Thykoottam - Pettah stretch.
A 5-member team, headed by Commissioner K Manoharan, carried out inspection of the 1.33-km tracks and Pettah station before giving the nod. Checks focused majorly on the tracks themselves, the electrical settings, fire safety and signaling system.
The track works between Thykootam and Pettah was completed by the end of March. The safety inspections however got delayed by the lockdown.
The Centre’s directive is expected to come in shortly up on which, the station will become fully functional, said KMRL Managing Director Alkesh Kumar Sharma.
