Thiruvananthapuram : The state today recorded 1251 fresh cases of Covid-19, said Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan in a media briefing on virus situation in the state. The day’s infections from contact figured at 1061 of which, source to 73 remains untraced.The day’s tally for new infections includes 77 cases pertaining to travelers from overseas, 94 incomers from states outside and 18 health workers. In Thrissur, one KSE employee tested positive for the virus in the day.

Five among persons who died earlier were diagnosed with covid in tests conducted posthumously by NIV. The deceased were identified as - Kannur native Sajith(40) who died on 2 Aug; Malappuram Imbichikoya(68) and Thiruvananthapuram native from Uchakada, Gopakumar(60) who died on 3 Aug; Ernakulam native PG Babu(60) who died on 5 Aug and Alapuzh anative Sudhir(63) who died on 6 Aug. With this, state death-toll climbed to 102.
9,36,651 samples have been sent for tests in the pandemic so far, - up by 27,608 sent in the past 24 hours. There were 801 recoveries recorded during the day.
A total of 1,49,684 people are under observation currently of whom, 11,654 remain quarantined various hospitals and the remaining 1,39,030 are being monitored in their homes/institutions. 1570 people were newly admitted into hospitals during today for observation purposes.
There were 11 new hotspots declared during the day. With this, hotspots-tally in the state rose to 506.
