Kochi : The court rejected a female student’s plea seeking to attired in full-sleeves and headscarf (hijab) for student-police uniform.
The petition was moved by an 8 std girl from Kuttiyadi Govt Higher Secondary School citing her religious tradition that requires wearing of a headscarf(hijab) and clothing that covers hands fully.
The court however did not buy that argument and instead observed that the Kerala Police had patterned its Student Police Cadets after its own force and that no religious symbol could be admitted into it. The police force currently has a common uniform for its personnel, said lawyer appearing for the government.
Justice VV Kunjikrishnan dismissed the case suggesting that the student may approach the government on the topic.
