Court Cannot Interfere With Daily Rituals Of A Temple, Clarifies Supreme Court

Thiruvnanthapuram : The Supreme Court on Monday ruled that a constitutional court cannot make interventions relating to daily rituals of a temple, adding, that anything in violation of general law or regulations will however fall into its purview.

The apex court observation came over a devotee’s petition that accused irregularities in rituals conducted by the renowned temple of Tirupati Tirumala.

“Can we interfere in rituals of temple ? How to break a coconut and how to do aarti?, asked the Bench headed by Chief Justice of India to the petitioner Srivari Dada who sought court’s intervention for changing the method of performing certain rituals and seva at the temple.
