Thiruvananthapuram : It is Cleanup Day for Kerala on Sunday. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan urged people to volunteer at sites all over the state for cleanup activities as part of prevention of infectious illnesses. Local self governing bodies, social organisations and residence associations must join in and make it a success, said CM.
Given the covid situation, care should be taken to align activities with guidelines given by the Health Department. Clean surroundings are essential to keep contagious diseases at bay. It also helps lower mosquito-borne illnesses. Stagnant water around the houses and neighbourhood become breeding sites for mosquitoes. During the cleanup, any water collected in this manner should be drained out. Control of monsoon diseases warrants greater urgency this time with overhanging threat of Covid-19, said CM.
