Thiruvananthapuram : Civil service must be people-friendly, said Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan. The significance of civil service is huge and is vital in the implementation of government policies, said CM addressing the inaugural of KAS in the capital.
State civil service was recommendation for by the 1st Administration Reforms Commission. Several dissenting views rose when it was decided to implement KAS. A lot it stemmed from sheer misunderstanding. Some are in the habit of opposing anything that’s new. They have been however convinced it gets nowhere and that both the supporting and opposing folks will eventually be alike beneficiaries of the new service.
The assumption held at first was there would be no development happening here. That thinking has now changed. Sullenness has been replaced by hopes for the future. Officials should adopt approaches favourable to implementing developmental activities in the state. There should be clear understanding that all arrangements made by the government are meant for service to the public, said CM.
There are several extensive moves to diminish or destroy civil service system in the country. However, conditions in Kerala are vastly different from other places. Robust civil service is an absolute must. It is a medium that facilitates service to the public. Posts in this respect should be increased rather than be downsized The government is taking steps for making Malayalam the language of governance. There is no animosity toward other languages. Problems should be viewed through eyes of those who struggle If there be laws or rules that come in the way, it should be brought to the notice of the government, said CM.
