Lucknow : Lakhimpuri Kheri, that hit headlines last year for grim reasons, has yet another shocker for the country. Two minor dalit sisters were raped, murdered and hanged from a tree in a sugarcane field in Laipur Majra Tamoli Purva village there on Wednesday evening.
The police have arrested four in the incident after the victims’ mother approached police.
According to the mother, the culprits who arrived on 3 bikes, barged into the house, thrashed her and took away the two daughters around 3 pm yesterday. Their bodies were then found hanging from the tree late evening.
Range IG Laxmi Singh said the accused were charged under POCSO and are being interrogated. Local villagers staged protest demanding justice for the dead.
The case brings eerie memory of Harthras rape-murder, where 19-year-old dalit girl was raped allegedly by four upper-caste men in Hatthras in September of 2020. The victim were cremated hastily in the dead of the night by police officers allegedly against wishes of the family.
