Thiruvananthapuram: The survivor in the sexual assault case against Palakkad MLA Rahul Mamkoottathil has, in her statement to authorities, alleged that Rahul assured her of marriage if she conceived his child. According to her testimony, Rahul told her that although his family might initially resist the relationship because she was divorced, they would accept it if the couple had a child. She said she relied on this assurance and agreed to conceive.

The survivor’s statement further alleges that after she became pregnant, Rahul shifted his stance and pressured her to terminate the pregnancy. She has questioned this reversal, suggesting that the earlier promise of acceptance and marriage may have been a manipulative tactic.

In her testimony, the survivor also firmly rejected the narrative circulated by Rahul’s supporters that she was in a relationship with him while still married. She stated that her marriage, held on August 22, 2024, effectively lasted only four days of cohabitation and ended within that same month. She emphasized that she first contacted Rahul roughly five months after the end of that marriage, not before.

The statements given by the survivor have intensified legal scrutiny on the MLA, who remains unavailable to authorities. Meanwhile, the Congress party’s mouthpiece Veekshanam has continued to publish editorials defending Rahul, portraying him as the victim of a politically motivated attempt to discredit him. Party leadership has similarly not withdrawn support, even as public criticism mounts.
